Stronger Together - NATO partnerships

Atlantic Forum is proud to support the Dutch and German Ministries of Foreign Affairs in promoting the event 'Stronger Together - NATO partnerships' which will take place on the 23rd of February 2022 in The Hague between 16.00 and 18.25 CET. The event will feature one of our patrons, Lauren Speranza, as a speaker.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg give their views on the role of NATO partnerships in the face of security threats, followed by a discussion with the audience in the room.

There is no shortage of challenges, as the current tensions on NATO's eastern flank make this all the more clear. Since its foundation in 1949, NATO has been essential to European security. With the increasingly complex and potentially global challenges facing NATO, there is all the more reason to re-examine the network of NATO partnerships. The main question during the event is: how can partnerships with other countries and organizations strengthen NATO's clout and how should NATO invest in this?

Prime Minister Rutte and Secretary General Stoltenberg's conversation with the audience will be followed by an interactive panel discussion with Jaap de Hoop Scheffer (former NATO Secretary General and Minister of Foreign Affairs), Lauren Speranza (Director of the Transatlantic Defense and Security Center for European Policy Analysis), Jonathan Berkshire Miller (Director and Senior Fellow - Macdonald Laurier Institute), and Valbona Zeneli (Chairman Strategic Initiatives Department of the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies).

The seminar is organized by Germany and the Netherlands in collaboration with Canada, Finland, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. The seminar is part of several seminars organized by NATO allies to gather input from policymakers, experts and partners on the NATO Strategic Concept. The Strategic Concept will be presented in Madrid in June 2022.
